"The Indians" is an audiovisual project of visual artist Ludomir Franczak & sound artist Robert Curgenven and based entirely on video tapes found in a Polish secondhand shop. These private recordings of an elderly German couple living in the eastern part of the country were made shortly after the demilitarisation following the fall of the Wall. After purchasing their camera they familiarise themselves with the techniques of filming: they record their apartment, the view from the window, each other, the TV. Frames are long and static. On first impression these images resemble photographs, still and unmoving, belying their uncanny animation and unusual action sequences. Curgenven and Franczak chose to rearrange these images to follow the formula of narrative construction in Hollywood screenwriting. The narration is shown on two screens, and the plot suddenly mixes with a live plan created in a small paper theater - additionally emphasizing the unravelling blockbuster while adding a new dimension. Both sound and picture are created live during the show.

The show exists as Part 1 & Part 2 which are best performed on consecutive nights.

The Indians Part 2 has been shown/performed at Resonances Festival (Elblag, PL). Photo documentation
