Leszek Paul on Terrain der Zeit (Beyond the Time)

“Technological advances that have transformed our experience of time and space have fundamentally altered what constitutes what we call "memory". Memory does not involve the retrieval of some past moment. Rather, it assembles a view of that past moment in and from the present. Because of their widespread availability, digital photography and video are, like television, primary media of memory, selectively recalling and altering the past as they represent it again in real time. Thus, any moment, any situation, can become "the most documented event".

By taking pictures of everyday journeys and their banality, and assembling them into a slide show I create a sort of "diary" of imperceptible everyday moments, allowing them to became a crucial part of my recorded memory.”
